antedated records
You found
something.
This is a collection of music demos, songs, bands, experiments, film scores, and live recordings made by one person over the course of decades. Most of it was never released. Some of it was made under different names. A lot of it was kept hidden on purpose.
An antedated record is a document assigned a date earlier than it was executed. It's a term I learned working off and on as a word processor at many law firms over the span of two decades. I liked that it sounded like a record label. And that it described exactly what this music is: things made years ago, finally surfacing now.
If one of these songs finds its way into your life, then it made it into the world. That's the whole point.
Think of this site as a digital scavenger hunt. The music is scattered across the internet under different names and projects. This is the road map.
My name is Terence Leclere. I've been making music since I was a kid in Paris, through college, through years of working day jobs in New York and Los Angeles. I kept thinking every new sound needed a new band, a new name, a new persona. Eventually I realized I could gather all of it in one place.
Most of these recordings were made years before they showed up anywhere. That's the "antedated" part. The dates you see on each project are when the music was actually written or recorded, not when it was uploaded or shared. I'm retroactively calling attention to work that already existed.
Pieces of this music are scattered across the internet: on SoundClick, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, and other pages under different names and projects. This site is an attempt to connect the trail.
When this was actually made.
Each entry is dated to when the music was written or recorded. Not when it was uploaded, not when anyone heard it. Click any chapter to read more. Links go to wherever the music ended up online.
Some work is live-only or unavailable online. Links will be added as recordings surface.
Ways in.
You don't have to go in order. Pick a thread and follow it.
Start with songs
Guitar songs, bilingual pieces, fingerpicking, the B-E-B-E-B-E tuning. Where most of this started.
Follow the bands
Playing with other people. Harmonium duos, drums, synthesizers, and a band called Spaceship Martini.
Hear the experiments
Short electronic pieces, GarageBand collages, Ableton etudes made between redacting documents at law firms.
Find music made for films and rooms
Film scores, immersive performances, poet accompaniment, and instrumental soundscapes at bookstores. Some only happened once.
The covers
TLsGS: Terence Leclere sings Girl Songs. Sincere covers of songs by women artists, performed at comedy shows around LA.
Some work is live-only or unavailable online. Links will be added as recordings surface.
That one little piece of music becomes part of the soundtrack of your life.
Maybe you found this site by accident. Maybe someone sent you a link. Either way, you landed on a collection of recordings that were made years ago and kept out of sight until now.
If something here sticks with you, then it found its way into the world. That's all any of this was ever for.
This goes straight to Terence.
Bookings, press, collaborations, or if you just found a song somewhere and it meant something.
